Shatha Safi was born in the Dheisheh refugee camp south of Bethlehem. She is a self-taught visual artist inspired by Palestinian history, heritage and resilience. She works with ink sketches, clay sculptures and acrylic paintings. Safi is the founder of the conceptual art project Bint El-Shams, which uses different media to shed new light on cultural symbols.
